"It's Not Just About Finance"

Biggest Losers in 2022

With only one trading day left in what will be remembered as one of the more memorable years, we’d like to highlight some of the biggest losers in 2022.

Why the losers?

Maybe it’s because the biggest losers in 2022 were recently the darlings of Wall Street for the last decade.

Or maybe it’s to remind you how Wall Street’s alleged gurus (Cough! Jim Cramer, Cough! Cough!) have, once again, been exposed as losers and the mouthpiece for the Boyz in the “Club.”

Or Maybe, Just Maybe pointing out how the losses – caused mostly by the corruption that’s haunting most investors in 2022 – is confirmation about what Financial$Matter is all about.

This email is not about “We told you so…”

Wait!

Maybe it is…kinda, sorta.

But we would be remiss if we didn’t take this opportunity to illustrate how Cycles Always Occur in the markets.

And if you don’t understand them then you’re doomed to lose along with the 99%.

Hopefully in 2023 you’ll learn how to see the markets with a different set of eyes.

And until midnight tonight you can still take advantage of our 50% off sale on our “…In Plain English” newsletter (HERE).  Simply enter the code word Save 50 at the checkout.

Biggest Losers of 2022

Now, let’s get back to that list of losers.

As of today’s prices, and starting with the indexes we have the following:

  1. DJIA (Dow Jones Industrial Averages) YTD -8.5%
  2. S&P Index YTD -18.3%
  3. NASDAQ Index YTD -30.6%
  4. Russell 2000 Index YTD -19.7%

So, if you did better than a -8.5% for the year, then congratulations you beat the best loser of all the indexes.

Somehow being the best loser doesn’t seem like a compliment.

But let’s move on to the Darlings of Wall Street for the last decade or so.

And we’ll start with the infamous FAANG stocks…Facebook (now META), Apple, Amazon, Netflix, and Google.

Wall Street repeatedly said that all you need to do is buy those stocks.

And here’s their performance in 2022:

  1. Facebook  YTD -65%
  2. Apple YTD -24.4%
  3. Amazon YTD -48.7%
  4. Netflix  YTD -47.5%
  5. Google YTD -36.5%

BTW, Tesla is Not one of the FAANG stocks but it’s performance YTD is -68.2%.

As a result, Musk is no longer the richest man in the world.

And let’s not forget another Wall Street darling, Cathie Wood who – according to most gurus – could do no wrong with her ARKK ETF which had most of its gains erased at YTD -64.7%.

Bringing up the rear is everyone’s favorite investment (sarc) Bitcoin which in November 2022 traded as high as $67,000 and hasn’t bottomed yet at $16,900.

So, in just over one year Bitcoin is -75%.

Any way you slice it, coming back from being 50-60-70% down is hard to imagine as we face Political Chaos in 2023.

But you can still prosper AND thrive in Turbulent Times every month with our “…In Plain English” newsletter (HERE).

Share this with a friend so they can compare how they did with all of the experts…LOL!

They’ll thank YOU later.

Remember: We’re Not Just About Finance.

But we use finance to give you hope.
